Superb former Pyrmont Public School, designed by architect #WEKemp, now Pyrmont Community Centre run by @cityofsydney.
Note the fine tower entry & tapering brick columns.
Excellent example of public building being transferred & repurposed for public use.
#publicsydney
Also some arresting costumes, programs & plenty of video footage about the building & events. Even Paul Robeson signing Old Man River to the workers!
Less on Utzon than he deserved..
but great to see the too-rarely-see Coburn tapestries featured.

Beautiful winter sun across Hyde Park & along Elizabeth St
Enduring qualities of #publicsydney
Quick peek (but not a swim) in sublime sunset Prince Alfred Park Pool, designed by #neesonmurcutt for @cityofsydney

Sunset ..or storm?
Likely both!
At the reservoirs @CentParklands

Another typical sunny Sunday crowd at our cafe/bike hub in #CentennialPark.
A pair of lightweight cubic pavilions, elevated on a friendly verandah-ed base to lift them above potential floods, open to the park all around, buzzing with

Anyone else bothered by every hall, room, entry, garden (thankfully not the loos.. yet) at #sydneymodern is named after some benefactor? Some perhaps you wouldn’t want to be associated with?
When most of new gallery is publicly funded? #publicsydney subsumed by #donatordetritus??

On a spectacular Sydney evening, the city celebrates the glorious restoration of the #ArchibaldFountain. Unveiled in 1932, the work of French sculptor Francois Sicard. Lighting design by Robert Woodward in 1961.
Open by @cityofsydney Lord Mayor @CloverMoore

The leaning pavilion of Glebe.
Yes modest but plenty of personality. Carefully enlarged by #lacostestephenson for @cityofsydney, with extended shade canopy on western side & enlarged change rooms on hillside, all the while working with wonky slope.

The masterful brick & steel detailing of East Sydney Early Childhood Centre, designed by #andrewburgeaarchitect for @cityofsydney.
Adaptation of older warehouse building, reworking window details within mostly existing openings

Section & reality;
The ‘walking’ structure of our canopy @ Pirrama Park, welcoming all comers to the park, shading the cafe seating & sheltering people in a storm.
Pavilion design thanks @waterloverswim & @wesgrunsell

Go see, go swim in Sydney Harbour’s newest swimming spot at Marrinawi Cove, on edge of Barangaroo beside Walsh Bay.
Unlike everything else at Barangaroo, created by community pressure, led by @YasminaBonnet & #mrag
Already a popular addition to #publicsydney 🧵
Following the vista along the Hyde Park promenade; people, birds, trees, sun & shade, stairs, stairs & water stairs in a marvellous sequence of framed views.

Face off across the street;
Both supporters & opponents of th polarising Cardinal Pell out in force at his funeral in St Mary’s.
The public space of the city as ever the forum for open dissent - no laws should ever weaken these essential democratic rights #publicsydney
+ Cafe, change rooms & an invigorating stair!
The public pool adjoins #7shillingsbeach (name refers to purchase price from Aboriginal people - Terra Nullius?? As if it ever was!).
It’s only public below high tide line - @woollahramc, how about investigating more public access & swimming facilities?

More such #sydneyharbourpools please!
Sublime & amenable #redleafpool, now also known after its Olympian devotee #murrayrose.
Generous safe enclosure, lots of fun as well as serious swimming, pontoons, sand, grass & shade.
Intensely urban setting.
Quintessential #publicsydney 🧵

Chatswood has become something of a little Tokyo; great combination of public space, serious transport & interchange, density, intensity & urban life. The Concourse Civic Centre a great asset, strategically placed.
Wasn’t always this lively.
Great model for many other such centres. Density alone not the answer.

Hello @woollahramc & councillors.
There used to be a harbour pool in the parkland along New Beach Rd - why not put it back?
Or
What about fabulous McKell Park right on Darling Point? Already some informal swimming there, interesting ruined stone walls to work with..
