'Troublesome pattern': More papers from heads of shuttered clinic under investigation - At a time when science deniers are in the ascendence, this kind of scandal is not helpful. More rigorous vetting is clearly in order. spectrumnews.org/news/troubles

So... I'm not sure reviewers are appropriately incentivized to deal with rebuttals and resubmissions in a *get you published* way. As a young assistant professor I'm told how selfish I need to be. But I need to serve on committees. I want to make the field better. I invested. Much to my own doom as my submissions lacked certain qualities that I was helping others fix on their own stuff. This system sucks.

Since this is the 2nd time in a row that we get a paper rejected at a conference with only positive reviews, without even a proper justification in the meta-review, the only "justification" being "acceptance rate needs to be kept low", here some thoughts about possible counter-strategies:

1) Simply make lots of people submit nonsense-papers just to bring the acceptance rate to “acceptably low” levels?

2) Flood-submit yourself, but instead with intteresting papers you like rather do easy-to-do “save” delta-research papers (some of those will go through, we will show this in one of our forthcoming papers!)

Is this what we want?

Life's paradox: waiting for months to get reviews of a paper, and receiving them on the week that you cannot possibly do one more thing 😅

"Researchers are under brutal pressure to publish studies. Their salary increases, promotions, project funding and social prestige depend on evaluations in which their performance is measured practically by weight. This system — known as “publish or perish” — has created monsters."

Much misconduct, especially paper mills, is driven by perverse incentives to publish, created by governments - but this is enabled by publishers discussing Impact Factors, citation numbers, and rankings, argues @ivanoransky

This probably comes from a good place but what about the culture in ? Isn’t it also where one must teach, mentor, write numerous proposals, network, review, chair…. All this assuming one gets a job. How do people get time to do all this & have a life?

Block ? Great, people will go to . Block them, and a new mass publisher will emerge within months. You're not fighting the cause; you're fighting the symptom.

Time and again, I see arguments that is because it publishes hundreds of thousands of papers. I urge anyone who claims this to look at how many papers researchers publish annually in their field. Then multiply that by the number of researchers. MDPI's volume is not the cause; it is a symptom of a culture
