In June this year the team of @opencitations published a highly informative paper about OpenCitations Meta, a new database created by the OpenCitations team that provides access to open metadata for many millions of scientific outputs https://arxiv.org/abs/2306.16191v1.
I just published a short review of this paper https://ludowaltman.pubpub.org/pub/review-opencitations-meta/release/1. I very much enjoyed reading the paper, but also have some suggestions for improvements.
Over a year ago ASAPbio announced the #PublishYourReviews initiative, which encourages peer reviewers to publish their reviews alongside the #preprint of an article.

Why did Silvio Peroni sign the #PublishYourReviews pledge?
Having an Open #PeerReview:
β
is a way to publicly acknowledge the researcher's effort
β
enables the reviewer to take public responsibility for what they say during the review process

Why are you opening up your reviews?
"Why should I not do it? What is the advantage that I have not to publish the review for me and for the advancement of science?"
Thought-provoking question from Silvio Peroni you should discuss with colleagues

Hongyu Zhou, @rafguns and Tim Engels have preprinted not only the initial version but also all subsequent versions of their paper 'Towards indicating interdisciplinarity: Characterizing interdisciplinary knowledge flow' https://doi.org/10.48550/arXiv.2207.10722.
This is a great example of how preprinting should be done! It has allowed me to publish open reviews of all three versions of the paper. I just published a review of the 3rd (much improved!) version https://ludowaltman.pubpub.org/pub/review-indicating-interdisciplinarity/release/1.

This is weird https://twitter.com/fraser_lab/status/1643267350052098049?s=20.
A researcher is invited by a journal to review an article. The article is available as a preprint. In line with the @ASAPbio #PublishYourReviews initiative, the reviewer publishes his review. Although the review is based entirely on publicly available information, the journal suggests there is an ethical violation and decides it doesn't want to use the review.
The article now needs to be reviewed by someone else. This is such a waste of everyone's time!
#preprints are changing scientific communication.
Public review and commenting on preprints is the next step on that road.

It's not too late to write additional comments π (at https://en.wikiversity.org/wiki/Talk:WikiJournal_Preprints/Multiple_object_tracking), otherwise the next step is likely for the editor to send my response and revision back to the two reviewers. If the manuscript is ultimately accepted, it will then replace, wholesale, the existing Wikipedia article. #openaccess #openreviews #publishYourReviews #wikipedia @cognition #perception #visionscience
