Still going strong: #SlovenianRailways #SŽ class 711 diesel units from the 1970s, nicknamed “Mercedes” by Slovenian railfans. (The trains were built in Germany.) They’ve got a “cab-view” spot, the railfan’s preferred place on the train. 🤓

Discovered new and delicious La Turka baklava stand in Max City mall in #Pula. #Baklava done million different ways. Here are two with honey and pistachio. Yummy. Just hope the stand isn’t only temporary for the season, like almost everything else here.

Reminiscent of 2 #strikes in #Maharashtra...one a musicians' strike in the #Marathi film industry in the 1940s/50s. #PuLa #Deshpande, who was a film director/actor then, backed the strike and he was chased out of the film industry. He then chose to become a writer. The other was the famous textile mill strike of the 1980s, where mill owners waited out striking workers in #Mumbai and it eventually destroyed the #textile industry in Maharashtra.

🇭🇷 The Pula Arena - an ancient Roman amphitheatre located in the Croatian town of Pula (formerly known as Pola) - a vintage photochrom print from the 1890s.

The arena was built between 27 BC and 68 AD, and is still relatively well-preserved, considering its age.

The “Istra” evening service for #Slovenia 🇸🇮, worked by a #SlovenianRailways class 711 unit, leaves #Pula 🇭🇷 in a northerly direction, passing through central #Istria. The line retains plenty of old railway charm, including semaphore signals and station buildings dating from the 1870s.
