There are tons of tech implications here - from fixing "smart" cameras, faucets and hand dryers that can't process darker skin effectively and search engines that default to lighter skin subjects in image search results, to outdated FDA guidelines for pulse oximeters that only vaguely state "two 'darkly pigmented' subjects must be included in testing."
