Harsh, but fair and true. It first hit me when I watched #Supergirl a couple of years ago and she was burning herself out listening for and responding to nonviolent larceny and similar crimes.

A clearly disproportional use of her near invincibility, the same as her cousin has always done, along with superheroes like (my favorite) #SpiderMan, and #billionaire #oligarch, Batman.

No superhero fights the system, though some anti-heroes may sometimes do (#Punisher?).

In the end, the Punisher shoots Reverend Smith and leaves him for dead, but stops short of actually killing him. I can’t tell if it’s cruelty or mercy, but I feel like he might regret not killing the Reverend when he had the chance. #marvel #punisher

And now the Reverend is preparing batches of potassium cyanide for what he calls “revolutionary suicide”. This scenario is obviously based on real-world cult leaders, but I feel like the Jonestown Massacre is kind of a cheap target for a story. #marvel #punisher

The Reverend is preaching about the battle ahead, and how the followers might need to fight to support their cause…or even die, if necessary. And he speaks specifically about the children needing to sacrifice, which he’s done a little too often. #marvel #punisher

The Reverend admits that he doesn’t believe in God, so his special powers must be some sort of mutant ability. But the Punisher wonders if some higher power is involved. “Joe, one of the things I most admire is your cynicism. Please don’t disappoint me.” #marvel #punisher

The story is good at playing up the Reverend’s charisma as he prepares for his holy war…but they give him the crazy eyes here, just so you know he’s definitely crazy! #marvel #punisher

The Reverend and his church are headed to Guiana, where they are stockpiling weapons and preparing for war. I would expect the Reverend to preach about Jesus calming the storm, but he chose a different passage. I guess he’s not that great a preacher! #marvel #punisher

Reverend Smith appears to have some sort of magical powers, because he removes a bullet from Frank Castle through faith healing. But he’s also collecting plutonium, so maybe he has a much darker plan! #marvel #punisher

After one of his suppliers is murdered, the Punisher goes undercover to infiltrate an extremist organization posing as a church, led by the very charismatic Reverend Smith. Miraculously, Smith doesn’t die in this issue, probably because it’s a two-part story. #marvel #punisher

Por cierto, tan seria y "adulta" que pretende ser, la película, y luego te encuentras un Doug Hutchinson y un Dominic West tan sobreactuados que parecen salidos de una secuela de Batman de Schumacher. No desentonarían nada junto al Dos Caras de Tommy Lee Jones.

Por eso, en esta película, me incomoda y repugna. Sobre todo cuando te ponen a una mujer y a una niña agradecidas al final. Es que... es que no puedo recomendarla. Su mensaje me parece basura.

Todavía no he visto un live-action, ni siquiera la serie de Netflix, que me guste.

Con lo fácil que sería adaptar MAX Punisher en una serie. Te quitas de tonterías y muestras la faceta más incómoda y adulta de Frank, sin idealizaciones de ningún tipo.

En fin, vamos a dejarlo en que, sencillamente, no es un personaje que me guste. En general.

Me gusta la etapa de Garth Ennis bajo el sello MAX porque no le idealiza, no lo trata como un héroe, ni como algo necesario para esta sociedad. Lo utilizó como una víctima de un sistema fallido, como un hombre enfermo y roto. Su cruzada es un infierno del que no puede escapar.

En otras palabras: no se debe ensalzar a Punisher para elogiarlo como una figura mesiánica y heroica. Hablemos de cómo de jodida ha de estar la sociedad para que, por desgracia, podamos llegar a necesitarle en situaciones límite.

No es un héroe, es una terrorífica consecuencia de una sociedad rota. Llorad por necesitarle.

Creo que el mayor problema lo tengo principalmente con lo que Frank Castle representa. La venganza visceral. El héroe que matará a todo aquel que mate. A todo ser difícilmente reinsertable en la sociedad.

El mal necesario, el vengador justiciero. El héroe que necesitamos.

Pero lo que me ha tocado los cojones es la escena del epílogo, la del cierre, con el detective Soap (madre mía, el actor...) diciendo "no me gusta la pena de muerte", para luego llorarle suplicante a Castle para que dispare a un atracador que le apunta con una pipa.

Y Castle aparece, como un ángel vengador, con la silueta recortada, en lo alto de unas escaleras, quedándole de fondo una iglesia, con una cruz cuyas palabras en neón rezan "Jesus Saves", se borra "Jesus" y nuestro "héroe" dispara al atracador.

BOF.

Me repugnó.
