Now that I have a lot more control of #notifications from my #email with #Port87, I’ve noticed how redundant #PushNotifications are for most apps. So I’ve turned off notifications on several apps so far. https://port87.com

#Mastodon #notifications appear to now be broken in both the #icecubesapp and in general in the browser. So weird! Hoping it was a user setting somewhere that I messed up, trying a few different things.

Hey #browser experts, anyone seen this issue in #Safari? ServiceWorkerRegistration’s pushManager.permissionState(), Notification.permission, and navigator.permissions.query({name: 'notifications'}) give different answers when in fact the site has already been granted permissions from a previous session. It seems navigator.permissions.query is accurate in my case, though someone here has seen the opposite: https://developer.apple.com/forums/thread/731412

I’m thinking as a workaround querying all three and taking the most permissive as the source of truth, but ew.

With some news outlets very keen on pushing you toward their app these days, if you respond to the app's push notification, the news outlet shouldn't then also send you a breaking news email alert for same story (or vice versa). The duplication is an annoying user design feature which undermines brand trust.

The new whatever magic apple is using with web apps works in iOS! At least, in part. Elk is a web app, not an native one, but it’s separate from Safari! (Notifications, I don’t see them but I need to get a notification first)

Fedilab might be good. Has it been audited lately, we don't know.

They made some changes, relating to google, that we didn't like to enable #pushNotifications a while back, which sort of made us recoil a bit at the time. Its possible that all apps do that now.

Push Notifications can be disabled so Fedilab is likely a fine option.
