A word or two about the pussy willow catkins. I’ve been taking daily pictures of them for almost a year. Why? I suppose it just became a thing for me; a sort of document of something I’d not payed much attention to before. What goes on with them? Who knows? Who cares?

There is no doubt one of the signs that Spring is here is when I discover the first pussy willows! Walking along the trail, the trees seem bare of any new growth until I spot the first telltale grey, fuzzy catkins just beginning to show. They are so soft, so touchable, so fuzzy they make me smile! I love to see the willow trees in bud in Spring. Their fuzzy or furry buds, known as catkins are more commonly referred to as pussy willows, & are one of the early signs that winter has passed and spring is here to stay.
