@arstechnica Sadly this shit ain't new - I have a 15+ year old #OfficeJet #AllInOne that will complain about lack of ink and will refuse to #scan or #fax without one manually clicking away the warning on the device.

But that's #hp - level #Assholeism, they do the same with #hp-branded #RAM on their #ProBook|s and #DeskMini as well as #Z-Series #Workstations and brick #unattended & #PXE #boot in the process...

Since #Apple's devices are literally designed to be #fragile, I do think it's safe to assume if not demand that having parts from a donor machine should allow one to fix an issue...

Just like on any major brand laptop.

Even #hp and it's #ProBook #Laptops with their #FUD-based #VendorLock for #RAM that literally bricks #PXE and remote/headless/timer-based booting don't literally lock up unbootable if you were to take a differen ProBook's RAM sticks, WIFI, WWAN, SSD, Keyboard, Screen.

New thing I discovered today via HackerNews [1]: iVentoy [2], a tool taht helps you "boot and install OS on multiple machines at the same time through the network."

Afgelopen vrijdag kwam de uitslag van de bloedtest die 2 maanden geleden op “kweek was gezet” en zoals afgesproken werd ik teruggebeld, gelukkig redelijk vroeg in de middag, zodat ik me niet hoefde op te vreten van spanning: 100% een nieuw PXE-klant. Oh but if you do want a #PXE live installer server @arraybolt3 and have a pfsense, you could use the script I put up on Github for Ubuntu 22.04 Desktop/Server and Xubuntu desktop installs. You just have to tell pfsense to look for pxelinux.0, syslinux.efi and input the static DHCP lease you set up for the server.
