Super-resistant #Aedes mosquitoes from Cambodia and Vietnam. Intersting study in Sci Adv (https://www.science.org/doi/10.1126/sciadv.abq7345), the authors find the highest #pyrethroid resistance seen in a field population so far. The mosquitoes carries a novel set of mutations in the molecular target of pyrethroid insecticides. Troubling.

The Wang #river #basin in Northern #Thailand has substantial #agricultural use that incl. appl. of signif. levels of #pesticides. A 2020 published study from Chaikasem & Na Roi-et found that crop chemical residues in 20 veg. types showed contam. of OP #insecticides, #pyrethroid, org.chlr, and #POPs w/cumul. #hazard indices posing appreciable consumption #risk. Such studies raise serious issues about actual 'margin(s) of safety', and reliance on risk assmnt-based policy.
