New #geometry module is interesting, but currently seems like I'm just learning a ton of different little facts in #mu123.
We're shown how they're connected, and some hints at how formal proof works, but still feels like a mix of dull and firehose at the same time.
Enjoying the practical parts towards the end where we get to use the sum total of those little facts to solve some particular problem or to figure something big out that requires a bit of creativity. #q31 #openuniversity

On an #algebra -heavy part of #mu123 at the moment. Learning how to extract common factors and (today, I hope) how to solve simultaneous linear equations.
Algebra makes me happy. Amazing to think about the historical continuities embedded in these techniques, things handed down and honed over the years. What an amazing toolbox, and a satisfying one to boot!

Trying to think through how to tie a collection of mathematical ‘tricks’ and operations together in some sort of logical and rounded whole.

Working through the #fastai materials last week I had the first validation of my decision to study mathematics in more depth (via the #openuniversity #Q31 course).
Index rules came up during one of the classes where we were simplifying some expressions, and I actually knew what was going on because I'd just happened to study that in my maths homework!
Looking forward to much more cross-fertilisation along my journey!

I'm a former historian, researcher / author who switched careers about a year ago to become a software engineer (currently an ML engineer @ ZenML working on #MLOps).
I'm retraining myself to think and work in technical domains. Software is my day job, but around the edges I'm studying #machinelearning (mainly via #fastai), mathematics (via Open University's #Q31 #mathematics degree) and also the 'Basic Program' at Chicago University.

@dumpsterqueer
supposedly they have to come in pairs and need to have line of sight
I'd just stick an extra powerful shield generator on them.
