Some of my research has been about Mormons; and I have Mormons in my family. There’s a lot of struggling and apologia among Mormons going on as it came out that the #QBar murderer has ties to the LDS Church. Much of Mormondom is under the Trumpist thrall, and it also has its own, long history of rabid homophobia. Last year,church leader Jeffrey R. Holland used firearms & violent rhetoric talking to a BYU audience about resisting LGBT rights and influence.

The kind of terrorist acts committed against #qbar and #pulse can easily come to England, as they have before with the Admiral Duncan bombings.

The way to normalizing this will fall to the likes of terfs and the LGB Alliance, who will single out queers whom violence is justified against.

We are appalled by the horrific and hateful violence against transgender and other LGBTQ+ people at Club Q in Colorado. Our leaders must take action to protect the LGBTQ+ community and end gun violence.

I’m mostly cynical of cis-het institutional/political leaders (see also: white) but it was nice to see some humanity as both the police chief and mayor of #ColoradoSprings choked up several times. Catching up with news, enraged and heartbroken but not surprised. For us #homos of a certain age, violence is what we grew up expecting and trying in to escape. That we #queers live openly and without shame and with (some) legal status is galling and enraging to the neo- and Christo-fascists, fueling an astonishing cultural backslide into public #homphobia and rabid #antitrans #transphobic politics.
