Today in 1933, Robert Bourassa was born in Montreal.
He served as premier of Quebec from 1970 to 1976, becoming the youngest Quebec premier in history.
He returned as premier from 1986 to 1994.
Bourassa passed away from skin cancer in 1996.

Addressing it would first require the #CAQ to admit they have their priorities wrong, and that's not likely to happen. Priorities should be #Health and #Education, not #Language and #Immigration

An authoritarian leader, he remains controversial. Supporters consider him a to be a great premier, while detractors call his time as premier The Great Darkness.

Today in 1999, Camille Laurin died. He served in the Quebec Legislature from 1970-1973, 1976-1985 & 1994-1998.
He is the father of Bill 101, which placed restrictions on the use of English on public signs and in the workplace of large companies in Quebec.

Today in 1864, Louis-Hippolyte Lafontaine died. He served as the co-premier of the Province of Canada with Robert Baldwin. He advocated for responsible government, which he later formed with Baldwin & he abolished the seigneurial system in Canada East.

Today in 1921, Pierre Laporte is born. He will serve as deputy premier of Quebec when he was kidnapped by the FLQ on Oct. 10, 1970.
On Oct. 17, he was killed by his kidnappers. His body was found later that day in the trunk of a car at the airport.
