As I look at the manual, it seems to be ok (the screw touch the C503 caps at the ground side).

#CW #POTA Activation # 5 is in the books. @qrplabs #QMX this time, all on 40m with my 9:1 w/ 41ft and 17ft CP. After activation and then helping a new POTA operator activate CW, I jumped on the TX500 on SSB for another handful on 40m. Such a blast!

Assembly done. Now off to the smoke test. But I’ll wash my sweaty hands first, and then clean up the desk. #qmx #HamRadio #qrp #QRPLabs

This time I used a hot air gun for desoldering my damaged SMD parts on the #qmx buck converter board to replace them by new ones. I replaced Q104 but lost one of the connector pads on Q103. It probably was damaged during my initial tries to move Q103 with the soldering iron. The remaining trace of Q103 is too short to make a safe connection. I‘ll have to order a new buck converter. The rest of the kit is finished. Let's wait again! #HamRadio #qrp #QRPLabs

Yesterday evening I finished the main board without the buck converters (some very narrow spaces between the components). The excellent manual by #QRPLabs helped a lot. #qmx #HamRadio #qrp

#POTA success! I activated Bear Beach State Natural area K-8211 in Brule River State Forrest K-5577 for a 2fer then Bark Bay Slough K-8210 in Wisconsin. 21 CW contacts total because the black flys were brutal. No bug spray works against them at all. It was a beautiful day for it and Bertie the POTA dog enjoyed a few good swims in Lake Superior! I passed on the SOTA because of time. The new #QMX continues to work wonders at 3W. Maybe next time I can try FT8 with it.

I made some low profile knobs for the QMX. I didn’t like the feel of the stock ones and with the possible SSB update I can foresee a lot of tuning around with the VFO knob. The STL is on my Printables page, link in bio.

Would someone like to help me spend money on some good solder?

I just ordered a the new QRP Labs QMX kit and I know from building the QCX Mini in Feburary that I'm going to run out of the solder I have before I can complete the QMX. I think I'd prefer something thinner, I had been using 0.8mm diameter, and to get a big spool that I can put in a desktop dispenser.

@ke8smq @KC8JC I don’t mind “normal” toroids (as in one winding, or in the case of the #QDX and #QMX, the larger one with taps), I am dread transformers with multiple windings. I use my phone camera to take pictures, blow them up and then I slowly count to see if I have the correct number of windings. Makes things much easier.

And now, we wind a scary (to me) transformer. #QMX
