@dec_hl It's actually #QNX, even from back to the 80's, that gave me a strong preference for multi-threading and message passing architectures, internalized in a sense in modern actor-like frameworks, and a desire for deterministic behavior. It's also what I built my first large scale and commercially successful telephony servers a decade before GNU Bayonne. It was a leap of faith to jump into Linux early and start doing those kinds of things there by the mid 90's.

@jgoerzen incidentally, the US dept of labor used it explicitly as a generic programmable "menu shell" front end to their internal services at the time. The Linux version also was a port from my original #QNX 2 implementation, in the late 80's, as qnx had no real user environments at all beyond a particularly poor version of a /bin/sh, and a poorly defined concept of users at the time. So it was meant to be a user environment from the start,

@jgoerzen @len @humanetech @vega Thank you. WorldVU actually came about a decade after UBBS. I had developed a terminal UI toolkit, VU, and then built WorldVU on top of that. I originally developed VU on #QNX, and then sold it as a realtime UI toolkit and the BBS thru tycho in the late 80's and then ported both to this "new thing" called Linux in ?1992? Like with Coventry, I have revisited past projects that were maybe too ahead of their time a decade later.

#sctp seems a far more natural way to do low overhead network #rpc and messaging internally that feels a lot like how #qnx used to work. And to do so without something massive and resource intensive such as #google #grpc .
