Well part of it is that a lot of #journalism may not have those resources after all.

With budgets being squeezed and internal debate over future directions of the organizations, there might not be resources–money and attention–available for them to do the work to embrace #fediverse.

Forking #Mastodon for #QTs
and such, adding it to institutional workflows isn’t a trivial thing as you make it out to be!

What about encouraging journalists to use elk.fedified to access their mastodon account? It has QTs. cc: @DataDrivenMD

I encourage people to try it. Its features are great & it's thoughtful in advance about disability/access issues like alt text.

I also have advocated for #QTs with some modifications including opt-out buttons.

@blherrou I know some #mastodon folks think #QTs caused the cultural issues on #Twitter, but the longer I observe the more convinced I am that this isn't true. Dunk culture on Twitter wasn't caused by software imo, but by the founding (or early) community.

@JPEGuin @mammoth #Mammoth is my daily driver. It has three killer features I can’t give up for #IceCubesApp #IvoryApp. Firstly reposting from a different account than you’re browsing from. Secondly holding my place in each feed. And thirdly reverse scrolling, so I can start browsing were I left off and catch up to the present in chronological order.
The other feature I wished it supported was #icecubes style #QTs. The number one reason I leave mammoth is to #RT.

What’s wrong with simply opening up a Toot reply from someone you follow to see the thread if it appears interesting? Mayba tiny bit more effort, bu it keeps timelines cleaner and less demanding of attention

There's discourse on here about Quote Posts today, and whether they're a good idea. I didn't use them much on the other site, but here's what I used them for when I did...

Boosting a post and adding thoughts or context = 9 times
Public answer to a question post = 4 times
Silly joke that would otherwise be missing context = 3 times
Dunking on Elon Musk before departing for Mastodon = 1 time

(I completely get that it's that 1 particular use that people are hesitant about!)

I've more or less accepted that #QT #QTs is coming my way lol. I'm hoping that #Mastodon 's powerful moderation systems will somehow mitigate the damage.

Anyway, wonder which scenario will play out?
1) Some instances will enable it, users begin quote tooting people of other instances. Some are ok, some react by blocking. Eventually, servers that are pro-QT gets defederated from some servers.
2) Instances begin declaring themselves pro- and against-QT.

I am frustrated by the #quotetoots #quotetweets discussion. Had to ponder why I am reacting this way. I realize that I am upset that:
1) Stories of being abused via #QT by many are being dismissed, and this makes me feel like people prefer convenience over protecting the ones that will prob get abused via this
2) Many saying that the marginalized want QTs. We are not the Borg. Not all of us! Have you actually spoken to all of us or using us as a convenient to win the #QTs argument?
