Great story and history here as the First Nation in Yuquot, the home and nation of Maquinna who first met Spanish colonizers in the 1700s on the West Coast of Canada. It includes stained glass windows donated by the Government of Spain in the 1950s when this structure was built.

"It's a striking combination of elements, in a building that still wears the mark of a Euro-centric worldview. At the church’s entrance are two stained glass windows that were donated by Spain in the 1950s, depicting Europeans in the centre as the local First Nations are in the darkened periphery.

“These windows are now jarring remnants from a colonial past,” explained the First Nation on its website. “One window shows representatives of Britain and Spain, Quadra and Vancouver, conferring about ‘sovereignty’ over Nootka Sound in 1791.””

Every now and then, I get this really weird urge to buy a #classic #retro #apple #macintosh. Never owned one for an extended period of time, only experience with them was elementary and middle school. I get the urge to, like, buy a #Quadra or some other 68000 based mac, only to, at the last minute, realize I have absolutely no need or use for them. My Amiga is a faster 68000 mac than any Quadra, and I have a G4 PowerPC Mac, so that covers all of System 9. So, over time, the urge passes.

Another series of pictures of old computer stuff. Collected 2 old #Quadra950 from my father around 18 years ago but didn't have space for them later in life.

I combined the Quadras into one maxed out with RAM and explored #A/UX . Had a great deal of problem getting an A/UX image back then.

I used A/UX a little bit in the early 90s. Actually, it was the first #Unix I ever used. It was really neat. I always thought #MacOSX should have added something like "Commando" when launching a #CLI app from #Finder.

I bought a #Quadra 800 a few years ago with the idea of installing A/UX. I... should get around to that one of these days.

Spent a little more time cleaning the last few caps off of the Macintosh Quadra 610 motherboard today.

Went pretty well, on the second to last cap I did end up lifting part of the pad but some of it is still stuck down so as long as I'm careful when putting the replacements on it'll be fine.

I also touched up some of the legs on the RC6 IC. After inspecting the board where I already removed caps I noticed the solder joints looked bad. They still look bad but I think are actually connected now.

The new #macintosh #quadra 650 is in a bit of a state

Can any 90s #macintosh peeps point me in the right direction to figure out what this video card is? It’s made by Radius, and it says PRECISIONCOLOR 8 but I can’t actually find anything on a plain old 8, and it doesn’t appear to match the photos I can find of the 8-24X or the 8-XJ. Anyone have any idea what this is?

Well. A little more work on the old Macintosh Quadra 610 motherboard today. And I finally took on the busted cap that looked the worst now that I have gotten the hang of cleaning them off.

Good news is the cap came off easily.

Bad news is the nearby U46 IC (which had electrolytic gunk on it is toast. Some of the legs are eaten away and some of the pads lifted up when I was desoldering it. The pads started shifting around before I even tried lifting the IC which was surprising. I think those pads may be unused? I don't see any traces going to them. Maybe I got lucky.

So now I've cleaned 6 of 10 bad caps and the one (I hope) bad IC from the board. I think this part is still in production so I should be able to replace it without trouble.

A 5.25" drive sled for CD-ROM drives, a caddy-loading CD-ROM drive bezel, and a rear mounted expansion slot cover that can hold a @BlueSCSI. As always I've included the #solidworks for Makers files if anyone wants to mess with them. Enjoy!
