The idea here is one of #quadraticwaiting, similar to one of #quadraticvoting - instead of just having a plain wait list, a #library can let people who have done things in the past bid for the right to be next based on what they've done.

However - and this is key - each renewal gets more and more expensive as the same person seeks to extend a loan. So monopolizing an item becomes impossible!

Great review of #QuadraticVoting systems, which let voters express what they want *and* how much they want it. Each gets a certain number of points to allocate among, say, a set of issues. They can give more to their top picks, but that’ll leave them fewer for others. Each extra point brings diminishing returns (the “quadratic” part). All I wanted to say is that I believe digital voting will come: I can't imagine otherwise in 50 years time. We already have personal identification systems in most countries.

Digital voting will enable more citizen participation, and richer forms like #quadraticvoting

As in, I believe a trusted system can and will be built.

Basically, one is given votes equal to the square root of the finance one invests into a collective. (e.g. €1 → 1 vote, €4 → 2 votes, €9 → 3 votes, etc)

This incentivizes members to invest without upper limit, while giving a disproportional weight to those who invested least.

Quadratic voting is when you give voters 'x' voting points (e.g. 100) and voters score their options. Each increment on the score scale costs (increment^(2)) points (i.e. '+1' = 1 pt, '+2' = 4pts, '+3' = 9pts, etc)

Use-case: groups which are small enough to have mutual trust but big/diverse enough to have competing interests.
