But now a reputable particle physicist--who has already proved the technique works--intends to use a 1MW or larger gyrotron to _'beam drill'_ down to 20km. 2/4 The best energy source is ultra-deep geothermal energy. It's:
* scalable
* clean
* free
* safe
* continuous
and
* truly _global_, lying beneath the poorest village as well as the richest city.
In Earth's lower crust it's uniformly about 500C. The heat comes from the radioactive decay of uranium even deeper down which has been going on continuously since the Earth was formed and which will continue for billions of years into the future.

It's in the news that enemy ships are reported surveying windfarms in the North Sea. It's no surprise; they're obvious ripe, soft and easy targets.
_Obviously_, all centralised energy generation and storage is a weakness because it creates easy targets.
If each home had its own batteries, PV, turbine and heat pump, _and lowered its consumption to match that,_ it would leave no feasible targets.

Quaise Energy will use a 1MW gyrotron to speed-drill through granite and basalt bedrock down to an unprecedented 20Km where it's 500C and water becomes supercritically heated. This provides the high-density energy required by industry and usable domestically too.
Ultra-deep geothermal energy is available _everywhere worldwide_; although some folk live near volcanoes so they don't have to go this far.
