My UV-K5 goes back to the box. RX is very bad, no matter the antenna (my son and I did some RX testing yesterday away from city noise). Any strong signal somewhere will deafen it. AM is fake. Yes, you can flush any firmware, etc., but the radio is even worse than a . Fortunately I just invested 15€ on it.

Receive LO leakage from a set to dual watch.

As the clocks are divided down to get the exact LO, the two leaking tones are quite close to each other. Unlike 1200MHz and 145.000MHz.

Test setup for measuring the RF output direct from the chip used in the radio.
It is soldered to the transmit output pin via the stock DC blocking cap, suspected to be 100pF.

Hahaha! Guess what.
The BK4819 chip in the radio DOES work on .
Just hitting filters (noise lump is from the UHF PA chain running full throttle on noise).

Glorious -60dBm on 1297.500MHz!
A whole 0.000001mW of it!

This beats the -75dBm we got from rtl_trx on 1270MHz (aberfoot unmodified rtl-sdr stick used as a trasnceiver).
I even worked OH3HMU on 1270MHz with an rtl-sdr stick So the power is kainda usable.
