After three months of Couch-to-10k training, today I ran the 10k #run. I'm so happy to see the progress over time. Next, I'll rest for three days and then start training for the next 10k race aiming for a better time.

Reworking my system for personal motivation. Before it was money-based. $0.06 personal spending money/pomodoro, for example or $5 for making dinner, a few cents for each Strava intensity score. But now as I try to watch money more, I'm looking for new ways to track personal metrics to motivate myself. Anyone have good ones? I'm imagining something like Strava's "Fitness/Freshness" graph but for how well I'm meeting goals that are important to me. #QuantifiedSelf
I’m such a data-driven person and I love that I have 13 years of body measurements, but that can also be daunting when I’m looking to make an improvement. A month later, most of my runs are in 5k+ range. Though my pace hasn't improved much, my endurance has certainly gotten better. I'm able to run 15k+ every week now. One more month to go before the race.

A friend who recently recovered from an injury just did a bit of running! And unfortunately, their personal data trackers have duplicated the data unhelpfully.
One is a smart wearable, a bracelet or watch or something, that they use to track heartrate. One is Strava (on their phone?) that helps them track distance, speed &tc.
They both reported, so now the canonical data repository thinks my friend did TWO runs.
Are there deduplication best practices for #QuantifiedSelf activity #data?
Some interesting (at least to me) charts from my #running training data:
1. Average running power seems to be linearly correlated to running pace.
2. Average heart rate seems to be correlated to running pace as a logistic curve.
3. Average running cadence seems to be uncorrelated to running pace.
Of course this thread is a relatively cynical read of the #quantifiedself, but for me it was some really interesting learnings.
The workshop went on to discuss a "queering" of this data - for example, by handing control of the data and the analysis to the user, to give them the tools to ask and answer questions about their own bodies.
Crunched some numbers today and found that I made three times more money (adjusted for inflation) in last five years as a senior software engineer than I made as a junior and mid-level engineer in the ten years prior to that. #QuantifiedSelf

First verdict is in. That Sleep Analyzer shows a lot more info!
My Withings Scanwatch has registered 8 hours of sleep, the Analyzer shows just shy of 7 hours. I can more clearly see the effort it took to actually fall asleep.
I've snored for 1h29, or 21% of my sleep in 18 snoring episodes. And I've had an average of 28 apnea episodes per hour. Which puts me close to severe sleep apnea which starts at 30/h.
So yes, good data, I like it.
Very curious to see the data I can gather with this sleep analyzer by #Withings.

I’ve been tempted to get an Oura ring, but I’m a bit worried that the device would become useless if the company went under and also, more importantly, it seems like they have a proprietary charger that costs $60!

Three weeks later, I'm doing longer runs with higher speed. Two more months to go before the race.
🪐 #quantifiedself is one of the drivers, since forever, of people tinkering with their wearable and embeddable devices - and intimate uses of tech quickly become political. It has therefore become a touchy topic, mired with legal and social issues. At the same time, if we do not quantify, then someone else will: and we shall have less basis for recourse.
