After a recent experience in a local online group for queer meet-ups/community building that led to a mass exodus of trans, enby and agender peeps, it left me thinking about things for a few weeks.

Namely, how do we seek unity within a diverse LGBTQIA+ community when portions of the queer community seemingly either want nothing to do with the trans and agender portion of that community or want us to stay quiet about not being represented?

Suffice to say I've also been aware of more LGAlliance movements here in Canada and it's a hard thing to explain to cishet friends that just because something says LGBT friendly doesn't mean it actually is. Right down to the point that these days unless I see a trans flag beside your rainbow flag I'm not so sure we are invited.

How do we have unity when our gender diverse members are consistently thrown under the bus for other members to have a seat at the table, particularly in legislation and personal safety? How do we claim to be an LGBTQIA+ community when we only want the members the normies feel comfortable with now to be safe?

I don't know if I have any solutions, but I feel like a community that has been lifted for decades by the efforts of trans rights activists, especially trans POC, should have some deep acknowledgement of that work and those sacrifices.

Anyways that's my rant for the day. If you really support trans rights, make the effort to support trans rights in your own backyard, not some fluffy queer cloud far away from you.
