On my Mental Soundtrack today: I was a Peter Gabriel fan from way back when he was fronting the original Genesis (before that band turned from prog to pop). These days I find that the lyrics of his first song as a solo artist speak whole new meanings to me.

Mental soundtrack: so much great music was pouring over the airwaves in my teen years, now I'm just picking songs/artists at random that made an impression on me back then. More musings about the music of my youth: I was also into lots of music that at first blush would seem as far from genderfuck-glam as one could get - for example, Frank Zappa and the Mothers of Invention. This surprisingly poignant, not to mention prescient song occurs amidst the raucous satire of of Frank's 1968 album We're Only In It For The Money.

My musical memory tour continues: my teen years coincided with the golden age of New York FM rock stations - between them and the late night rock concert TV shows, this alienated suburban kid was uplifted by amazing music of all kinds.
