A couple nights ago I had a dream wherein I was hanging out with a fascinating old man who was telling me stories about his life while flipping through old photo albums, and we came to photos from his wedding: early ’70s; awful plaid polyester suits; the brightest smile on his face as he stood hugging his new husband. When I woke up, I was profoundly sad because … as far as I know there are no photos like that. Gay men didn’t get to have weddings in the early ’70s.

I thought I was fairly well versed in the #QueerHistory of US film. The interviews gave me info I didn't know about, e.g., creators fighting specific behind-the-scenes fights to keep gay subtext onscreen. Plus funny anecdotes, & a deleted scene from "Spartacus".

Just came back from #Berlin, and I really enjoyed it!
A few recommendations:
1/3 Try to follow a guided #tour conducted by independent BerlinGuide.de.

He proposes three thorough tours of the city on its #QueerHistory and #TransHistory, its #HistoryOfSex, and its #history of #clubs. I followed the first one, and it was fascinating, with extracts of interviews and documentaries bringing depth to the tour.

Can't wait to follow the other two next time I go there!

LIVE AND LET LIVE - 7/15/1962, WBAI radio, NYC (and later other stations)

In 1962, New York gay activist Randy Wicker was tired of radio's third-person discussions of homosexuality, with mental-health professionals yammering sickness-theory nonsense about us and saying things that had no connection with gay life as Randy had seen it.

So he approached a radio station that had aired such shows and convinced them to broadcast a panel of eight gay or bisexual men, talking for themselves about their own lives for several hours - a radical idea for 1962. LIVE AND LET LIVE aired on WBAI, and was later heard on other Pacifica stations and other nonprofit and educational radio outlets. You can now listen to it online. Here's part 1:
