The fact is, labels don't have profound, unchanging meanings that apply equally in every time and place. Like every aspect of language, our terms for ourselves change and adapt with us as individuals and as peoples.

What matters is not whether someone in the past (or future) would be "xyz," but rather that you can see something of yourself in another person across time.

If you have multiple queer/lgbtq labels, people will tend to pick and choose which label they want to focus on.

However, you don't have to prioritize one label over the others like they do.

They're wrong for elevating one aspect of you over the rest. You are right to see yourself as a whole regardless.

It doesn't matter how "useful" somebody thinks your identities are. It's not up for debate.

Focusing on one of your labels to the exclusion of the others is like praising the color of a bird's plumage more than it's flight. It's like enjoying the summer green, while hating the rain that helped it grow.

Tough times get easier. It doesn't seem like it right now (and that's ok), but it will be easier eventually. You will adapt to it and learn how to incorporate it into your life.

Coming to terms with being nonbinary (or queer/lgbtq in general) was extremely painful, terrifying, and is still dangerous. Nevertheless, here you remain.

You will find some form of peace again. And, you will be stronger and more experienced, when life is hard again.
