What's this ancient UI element behind the QuickBooks updater dialog window? Smells like shoddy code or lazy developers to me.
Warning: Quickbooks Rant!
I'm not CW'ing this because I hope #Quickbooks or #Intuit somehow see it.
I've used Quickbooks since 2004 and its iOS apps the past 5-6y. The apps have never been as good as the full website experience (QBOnline), and that's not uncommon for many services I use. However, the app is not getting better. If anything it's getting worse! Crashes a lot. It's hard to find things you use a lot, like taking payments. Forgets that your card reader is there and has to keep reconnecting. Takes way too many clicks to find customers and items for invoices. Almost unusable dt the awkward moments spent in front of a client while their arm grows numb from holding their card out for payment. Compare that with Square, which I use for my art/writing business. Quick, easy sales interface and takes payments really fast. It's often done before I'm done making small talk.
Here's the part that really chaps my ass: I pay $35/month for Quickbooks Online whereas Square is free. Square doesn't do all the accounting stuff, obviously, but still-- Quickbooks, in all it's years of existing and taking my money, can't give me an app that doesn't make me want to rip my hair out?? I think that Intuit just knows it doesn't have to really do anything for the little guy. They can just keep stealing my money and giving me peanuts. I'm ready to change.

IF anyone is using #Quickbooks Pro on the desktop, get off of it. They're now requiring subscriptions in addition to buying the software, and they hold your finances hostage until you pay up. It's migration time..
I know a lot of people been asking me about QuickBooks for the blind. Would anybody be interested in me making tutorials or even a full on course? #A11y #QuickBooks
Interesting.... looking at

Why isn’t there a reasonable alternative to #QuickBooks for small businesses with a small number of monthly transactions? Their price is far too high for the number of transactions I need, and how simple my books are. #SmallBusiness #Accounting #BookKeeping

I bet #SVB used #Quickbooks just like #FTX did
For complete disclosure, my company uses #Quickbooks
#SVB integrates via API with companies using:
#quicken
#quickbooks
#mint
So expect these APIs to go down.. and #phishing related to these…

Taking advantage of longer posts here to let folks know what's going in with Intuit and QuickBooks - software that's at the heart of a lot of small businesses, including mine. QuickBooks encompasses a lot of products, but the ones most people know are QuickBooks Online (QBO), a monthly subscription for their web-based accounting application, and QuickBooks Pro for Windows (QBW), a Windows desktop application. QBO is it's own kind of terrible, and I stay away from it, but I'm dependent on QBW for day-to-day business operations, as are an awful lot of small to medium businesses.
Intuit brings out a new QBW every year. Until 2022, QBW could be bought in two ways: a license for a specific year's version, say QBW 2019, for about $300, or as a subscription (QB Pro *Plus*) for about $350 a year that included yearly version upgrades, support (normally $75/incident), and online backup. The specific year versions were obsoleted after 3 years - no security updates or online stuff like downloading from your bank after 3 years, but if you didn't use online features the software would keep working. If you did need online features, after 3 years you'd buy the current version and keep going.
So for most people the cost of ownership of QBW was about $100/yr. But in 2022 Intuit stopped selling those year-specific version licenses. You could now only buy the subscription version for $350/yr. So the cost of ownership for most users immediately jumped from $100/yr to $350/yr. And now, this year, the subscription is going from $350/yr to $550/yr - this is a huge increase AGAIN! So in two years, QBW has gone from costing $100/yr to $550/yr, and that's just exploitative to me.
Businesses don't like to change their accounting software, there's a lot of lock in here. And Intuit is taking full advantage to squeeze their clients hard.
It is monopolistic and extractive. Intuit is using their market dominance and the natural inertia around changing business processes, especially accounting, to really turn the screws on their customers. Intuit will claim there's some value add here, that people are getting support and staying up to date on the software, but their support is terrible and I don't want to pay for it if I don't use it, I don't need to update the software to do the very basic GL/AR/AP I need, and none of it is worth a 450% bump in price in 2 years.
The whole thing stinks to high heaven, and it's another example of software lock-in allowing vendors to stick a vacuum cleaner in their customers' wallets.
Any #smallbusiness people out there have thoughts on what they're using for #invoicing these days? I'm currently on #Xero - but looking at #Freshbooks, #Quickbooks, or #Stripe invoicing even? It feels like they're all settling into similar pricing for basic invoice + expense tracking.

Looking for #business #accounting #software that meets the following criteria:
- #MacOS
- data stored locally
That’s all. Would be nice if if could import from #QuickBooks, but not a requirement. Does this exist?

quickbooks is being more like dickbooks today
Quickbooks Online is a hellhole of banners, ads and popups for their own add-on products.
It doesn't seem to remember when I close their new payroll thing popups, so I'm seeing it EVERY TIME I send an invoice (I sent 7 today).
They seem to forget that I'm *already paying for their tool* and they're making it WAY harder to use.
Please don't make your subscription service nearly unusable in the name of "growth hacking."
