Hallo,
hat jemand Erfahrungen zu
#Alternativen zu #WhatsApp:
#Dezentraler #OpenSource-#Messenger"Quicksy":
https://f-droid.org/de/packages/im.quicksy.client/
https://de.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Conversations_(Instant_Messenger)
Habe #Signal und überlege statt #Conversations lieber #Quicksy zu verwenden.
Ich stelle mir eine leichtere #Erreichbarkeit über die #Telefonnummer vor.
Welche Vor- und Nachteile gibt es ?
G-)

@sachinsaini @prav One big advantage of #FreeSoftware is that we don't have to be limited by what a developer provides with a software. We find #Quicksy is almost perfect WhatsApp replacement but this one tweak makes it also a Telegram replacement. We just want to improve Quicksy so people can think of it as a Telegram replacement as well. There is no limit to what an app should or should not, the limit is only our imagination. Quicksy is Free Software so we are in a position to modify it.
@sachinsaini @prav I know #Conversations has custom username support, but you can't discover contacts automatically using phone numbers/address book.
So we want custom username and contact discovery at the same time, which is not possible today. #Quicksy makes it easy to join and find contacts, but its down side is, you expose your phone number to everyone you talk directly or in private groups or to admins in public rooms.
It is not necessary to use phone number as username for discovery.
The question I get most often asked after friends install Conversations or Quicksy is whether there is a way to turn off that permanent notification thing that shows the connection status.
As far as I can tell it is possible to turn it off, but then you won't get any notification on new messages.
I guess WhatsApp behaves differently there?
Can you answer why that is and can we maybe put the answer into the Conversations/Quicksy FAQ?

I was having a call via #Quicksy with a #traveling friend who is currently in South America. I am in Europe. Half an hour long, no hickups and he told me the audio quality was way better than via WhatsApp.
We have a private beta version of prav app and we are looking forward to release a public beta. See the attached screenshot of how it looks like(a fork of #quicksy).
#Prav wants to register as a Multi State cooperative society in India. We already got 50 members from Kerala. We need 50 members from another Indian state.

#prav App is convenient without vendor lock-in (unlike WhatsApp, Telegram, Signal etc). Except Quicksy, most apps are only convenient and come with vendor lock-in. We are complementing #quicksy with a more sustainable revenue and democratic governance model through a cooperative ownership and control. We are interoperable with Quicksy using the #xmpp protocol and happy to see if more people learn about Quicksy from us and join it instead of Prav too.

Today I discovered #Quicksy. It's a spin-off of the #XMPP app "Conversations(.)im", developed by the same people, but designed with ease of use in mind. It actually links with and uses your phone number to sign in so it's easy to on-board new users, and easy for new users to find people in their contacts list that already use it. But, it is just a standard XMPP client, so it is still capable of communicating back and forth with people on other XMPP / #Jabber servers.
@ErcanErdemArdal Oh, I realise you were probably talking about #quicksy and not slidge in this toot, sorry about that. Yes, Quicksy JIDs (#XMPP addresses) look like +555123456@quicksy.im, so if you want an XMPP account not linked to your phone number, do not use Quicksy but rather #conversations or forks like cheogram or blabber.
I also don't like to see my phone number in my JID *but* a lot of users appreciate it. It makes the user experience closer to whatsapp, signal, telegram, etc.
@bwoodcock this is the same strategy used by #Quicksy, where the phone number ends up being in the JID
For Prav, we're planning to change it so the user can choose a different JID; that way the phone number is only used for authentication and not exposed to the world
@ErcanErdemArdal I forgot to mention #quicksy for android, which is a #conversations version with "whatsapp-like' onboarding on their server (you receive an SMS code that acts as a one-time-password). I'm not fond of "your phone number is your username" *but* I'm grateful that quicky exists, since a lot of non tech savvy folks really like this. It's still federated XMPP underneath.
