When I have had a hard day (like today) I often turn to three things for comfort: poetry, music, and quiet time for reflection.
This time though, I did neither of those. Instead, I spent 3+ hours using ungodly amounts of artificial due to make rainbow bagels from a kit. It was the most frustratingly beautiful thing I've done in a while and somehow exactly what I needed.
When life feels sucky, make rainbows.

Usually I share a poem or a memory with you in these quiet hours but tonight I share from closer to the heart.
My 17 year old son likes to serenade me with his acoustic guitar and I happily accept the invitation, no matter how late in the evening or how tired I feel. These precious moments I will take with me into the great beyond but for now... I'd like to share a brief moment of aural joy with you.
Come and listen a while...

Going Home: New Orleans (excerpt)
By Sheryl St. Germain
Some slow evenings when the light hangs late and stubborn in the sky,
gives itself up to darkness slowly and deliberately, slow cloud after slow cloud,
slowness enters me like something familiar,
and it feels like going home.

As an arts executive, I don't really share work photos here because my gallery is usually bustling with people and activities. It is the exact opposite of the place I have created here with you.
But my favorite thing to do after an event is turn down the lights once everyone has left and sit to reflect on all we did well.
I hope you find quiet space at the end of your day to celebrate yourself.
