I think it is often the case that people dramatically underestimate the amount of work it takes to get a nontrivial change that someone is passionate about both done and merged upstream

For example, as a thought experiment, let's say I have an idea for an implementation around #QuoteBoosting / #QuoteReToots. What do I have to do to get it merged into #mastodon?

I can almost see the horde of people typing now "BUT QUOTE BOOSTING IS A BAD IDEA!!!!!!!"
