There was actual gaming this weekend! Yesterday, my Cuba Libre game ended in a narrow Syndicate victory (as it often does, because I always forget to stomp on them).

Today, my wife and I finally got our own copy of Wild Blue Yonder by #GMTGames on the table. We learned #DownInFlames at Pacificon last year and enjoyed it enough to buy it. Enjoyed it again today, too.

We followed that with another game of #RaceForTheGalaxy with the Alien Artifacts stuff, and finished things off with a brand new game, the title of which I shall redact because we bought a second copy of it as a gift for a special someone who might read this...great times all around. #HexesForever

@soulseared I don't know what it is about that game that just ticks all the boxes for me.
Seems like most card games are very dull in that players have "healthbars" (oftentimes 20 hit points) and you just put down creatures/warriors/whatever on the table and deal damage to the opposing player. I did play #MagicTheGathering (#MTG) back in the day and a bit of #Hearthstone but that mechanic has just gotten so stale for me.

#Dominion, #AscensionGame and #RaceForTheGalaxy just hit differently.

Just pulled off the most insane game of Race for the Galaxy in the app against the hard AI. I had 96 points! I think the highest I hit before that was 61 or so. #RaceForTheGalaxy #BoardGame #BoardGames

@gamesbymanuel @bobcgames My issue with roll isn’t cheating, but it’s tangentially related. I have #YOPD. Small dice like in roll are far too small for me to properly set up the dice without fumbling them.

It’s terribly frustrating for me. And similar to Manuel, I find the setup, transport, and play of Race much less cumbersome.

But I’m glad people find enjoyment in it.

The best #boardgame I played in 2022 is Terraforming Mars: Ares Expedition. It's like #TerraformingMars and #RaceForTheGalaxy had a baby (pub. 2021, #16 all-time, 8.5/10).

Players are trying to make Mars habitable by boosting its temperature, oxygen levels, and water. Each round players simultaneously choose one kind of thing to do -- build things, develop tech, throw money at the problem, produce resources, or fish for ideas -- but everyone gets to do every action chosen by at least one player

I seem to recall that #SevenWonders has a solitaire "mode" that can be played. Most cooperative games like #ForbiddenIsland and #Pandemic can also be played solo.

I've heard good things about Deep Space D6 but have yet to encounter it personally to get a feel for it.

One of my all-time favorites has to be #Dominion, the #Deckbuilding #game by #DonaldXVaccarino.

Other games I do quite enjoy include #SmallWorld, #Carcassonne, #RaceForTheGalaxy, #EpicCardGame, #StarRealms, #Ascension and I haven't tried out #Splendor yet but it looks fun and I've bought that one as well.

But #DominionCardGame #DominionGame has to be my number one for sure!

#RaceForTheGalaxy is my top choice, though I haven't played it in a while. Speaking of tabletop games more broadly, I've gotten into playing #MagicTheGathering lately.

Even after all these years, the hard Keldon AI in the #RaceForTheGalaxy android app continues to wipe the floor with me. Medium difficulty, I return the favor. Hard, I have a ~25% win rate.

@emmahunneyball In my number one spot this year it's "Race for the Galaxy: Expansion and Brinkmanship". I really want to get #RaceForTheGalaxy to the table more often, and this in the only set I could find that has 'The Gathering Storm' expansion in it so that I can play it solo. (Love a good #SoloBoardgame mode 👍 )

Next up is the classic "Survive" 30th anniversary edition - mainly as one to play with the whole fam, including my 10 and 8 yr olds.

Not the /perfect/ #raceforthegalaxy aliens game, but pretty damn close :)

(As a side note, my lovely wife managed the rare 15-card tableau earlier in the afternoon as well. I don't think I've ever actually seen that happen. She would have done it a second time too, but didn't have enough military to get the last world out of her hand).

Been getting really into #RacefortheGalaxy on BoardGameArena lately, and just had a particularly successful game that was almost entirely developments, and won 49-29 against someone ranked notably higher than me.

For those who are not familiar, you build out a "tableau" of cards, and they're usually more balanced between worlds (round icon) and developments (diamond icon), but this game I got a couple development discount cards early on and just kept rolling with that!

Also, in captioning my image I just realized that I never used my Colony Ship, ha! Probably could have broken 50 points if I did. Ah well!
