Yes, we learned this when we bought the house & refused to sign the paperwork. The real estate agents had to locate the court opinions that rendered the covenants unconstitutional. Unfortunately as we have learned, relying solely on court opinions instead of actually removing language from outdated statutes/ legal documents can resurrect zombie provisions if courts overturn previous rulings. See anti-abortion statutes currently being revived

Those covenants were common in homes built before the 1948 when they became unconstitutional.

The 1st house that I bought in SF in 1981 on Ewing Terrace off of Masonic Blvd had one as did several other houses that I bought later in The City.
