When I arrived, I found social spaces that for groups marginalised by mainstream social media, like #2SLGBTQ+, #racialised, and #disabled people (I belong to the last one). The instance I joined, mstdn.ca, is carefully curated to be safe and welcoming.

I'm aware that other instances are very libertarian/tech-bro-ish, so ppl who arrive there experience the #fediverse differently.

The good part of the fowl site was the access I had to my municipal #Ottawa #politicians — it was like sitting across a coffee shop table, instead of sending e-mails to their offices.

I miss that, but I'm not sure I want to reproduce it on #Mastodon. Those who were here before the great exodus built something beautiful, a safe and positive intersectional space for #2SLGBTQ+, #disabled, #racialised people, and others. Maybe it shouldn't become just my channel to my city councillor.
