Back in December 2022, #Rackspace got hit with ransomware on their Hosted Service, via exploitation of ProxyNotShell - as I reported at the time.

Rackspace have so far spent north of $10m on incident response. This excludes ongoing legal and professional services costs.

This is just a heads up for my tech friends that my experience with Rackspace has been awful, and I'm moving every last resource out from them.

In order to create a VPS, it's a trival, but to delete it, you go to the website, are told you need to call a phone number, spend 7 minutes being asked security questions then transferred to two people, then they make a ticket and finally you have to manually type in "I agree" in the ticket.

This is the cancellation racket.

Well well well, rackspace hosted exchange was hacked last week, and now a couple of my dovecut customers with very unique emails were hacked, emails gone, M & T Bank was added to the username.

Okey, so #Rackspace is no longer the premium, best bang-for-the-buck cloud IAAS service provider. And I need to move elsewhere.

I've been pretty happy with #DigitalOcean, but wasn't all that impressed with #Linode. However, my impressions are a few years old. Since Rackspace has changed, it's reasonable to assume others have as well.

So, I am beseeching opinions and recommendations for #Linux-savvy (or -based) #IAAS #cloud #providers.

@tom Both possible yes. Although if we’ve learned anything from incidents like #Rackspace the reality is big companies charging a lot more may well have very poor resilience and preparations for issues anyhow so I’m not sure one is more risky than the other in reality.

If anything I would imagine a small company can still do better overall as they’ve just got more to lose and can be more nimble than larger companies usually at handling issues.

But I do agree with principle of your post!
