#Radioastronomers have long dreamed of placing a radio telescope on the #farside of the #Moon, which is the most radio quiet region accessible to Earth. Now, however, they are worried about how much radio noise all the upcoming lunar missions will generate.

In 1966, USSR's Luna 9 probe sent the first photos ever taken from the surface of the #moon. British #radioAstronomers at #JodrellBank were listening to Luna's transmissions when they recognized the fax-like sounds. Using equipment borrowed from a local newspaper, they were able to not only decode the pictures, but published them before the Soviets did!
