It appears that there is some ejecta related to the X1.0 flare at 22h47 UT today. An element of this CME could affect Earth in a few days.

Preliminary data shows that the shower peaked at the expected time of 04-05h UT this morning. This data comes from my own reception of radio echoes from the Graves satellite radar on 143.050 MHz. The count is in meteors per 10 minutes.

My attempt to receive FT8 signals from EI9KP on 34.013 MHz resulted in "nothing heard".

9m band, anyone?

Phil, EI9KP in the west of Ireland will be conducting some propagation tests on the 34 MHz (9m) band on Wednesday the 4th of January 2022. This coincides with the peak of the Quadrantids meteor shower which is expected to peak around 03:00 to 04:00 UTC on the 4th.

On the sun: A coronal hole is facing earth. Coronal holes are a source of strong solar wind which have the potential to produce geomagnetic storms and aurora.

Overlaid on the image (taken on Dec 4th/5th) from SDO is a magnetic field model known as Potential Field Source Surface (PFSS).

More details can be read in the image alt-text.
