A beautiful overlook just south of the Big Savage Tunnel along the Great Allegheny Passage. This alone was worth the trip.

What I love about rail trails is the history you roll through.

This abutment is all that remains of an old pre-WW2 road (or rail? coal chute?) bridge. Aside from satellite imagery, there's nothing remaining of this road. It's too small to show on topo maps and I can't find a list of Maryland LIDAR captures.

If you want to figure it out yourself, this was at 39°42'38.7"N 78°54'40.0"W

This is the south face of one of two tunnels on the Allegheny River rail trail. Completely unlit inside, but the paved trail was an easy ride. And honestly this is just one of my favorite tunnel pics from my adventures.

The Cumberland Valley #railtrail is an easy and quiet ride through rolling farmlands. What it lacks in tunnels and bridges it makes up for in peace and relaxation.

Best part? There's a goat farm near the halfway mark!

Picking up where I left off on my old server, I'm posting pics of some of my favorite #railtrail rides since I'm stuck indoors for the winter.

This bridge along the #WestPenn #trail was built in 1907. When a dam was constructed nearby nearly 40 years later, it began regularly disappearing beneath the lake. You actually have to check water levels before you ride this trail, or you can get stranded.
