Disused short #railway #bridge between the Murray to Mountains Rail Trail and the Uncle Tobys factory in Wahgunyah, #victoria , #Australia . The disused railway station at Wahgunyah is 100 metres or so from this bridge. Wahgunyah was the terminus of a branch line that left the north east mainline at Springhurst. Today the section between Rutherglen and Wahgunyah is a rail trail.

The end of the line, Bord Na Mona are currently lifting all the old industrial railway tracks they used to take peat or turf sods off the bog. This is mainly because they are unused but also to prepare for the construction of the massive Balleydermot wind farm which is currently in the planning stages. They will leave behind some great infrastructure which hopefully will be used for long distance off road cycling/walking tracks, the road crossings are all there. #cycling #bogs #railways

Something I get asked about A LOT is discontinuous electrification. A typical comment on social media will be something like “well with battery technology so readily available we can just electrify the easy bits and run on battery in between…”

Lots of us have Railway Workers in our family tree. Hadlow Road Station has been restored back to how it looked on the day it closed in 1956. Fascinating and there is a cafe! It was on the old Birkenhead Railway which is now a great cycle route along the Dee estuary.

In fact, the saboteurs appear to have sent simple so-called “radio-stop” commands via radio frequency to the trains they targeted. Because the trains use a radio system that lacks encryption or authentication for those commands, Olejnik says, anyone with as little as $30 of off-the-shelf radio equipment can broadcast the command to a Polish train—sending a series of three acoustic tones at a 150.100 megahertz frequency—and trigger their emergency stop function.
“It is three tonal messages sent consecutively. Once the radio equipment receives it, the locomotive goes to a halt,” Olejnik says, pointing to a document outlining trains' different technical standards in the European Union that describes the “radio-stop” command used in the Polish system."

Hackers broke into railway frequencies to disrupt traffic in the north-west of the country overnight, the Polish Press Agency (PAP) reported on Saturday.
The signals were interspersed with recording of Russia's national anthem and a speech by President Vladimir Putin, the report says.
