Leaks found in hose to transfer -contaminated

Editor: huaxia, 2023-08-11

"The operator of the crippled nuclear power plant has found leaks in a hose used to transfer nuclear-contaminated wastewater, local media reported on Friday.

"Tokyo Electric Power Company () conducted a probe after higher-than-usual levels of material were detected in in the dike around a storage tank, public broadcaster NHK reported.

"An inspection found that some water had leaked from cracks of about four centimeters on a hose being used for transferring radioactive wastewater at the time, the report said.

"As the hose was used to transfer radioactive wastewater from another tank, TEPCO analyzed water in the dike around the tank and detected up to 67,000 becquerels of tritium per liter, which exceeded 60,000 becquerels, the standard set by the Japanese government for releasing tritium into the environment.

"TEPCO said that someone caused the cracks with a cutter blade while removing the packaging around the hose after it was delivered, adding that the water that leaked remained inside the barrier.

"TEPCO added that the leak would not affect the plan to discharge the radioactive wastewater from the plant into the ocean.

"Despite strong opposition from neighboring and countries, as well as local fishermen over the irreversible impacts on the marine environment and public health, the Japanese government and TEPCO have been pushing for release of the radioactive wastewater from the Fukushima nuclear power plant hit by a massive earthquake and an ensuing tsunami in March 2011."

40 litres of harvested today, since Saturday. One 250l water butt is almost full, so I'll start filling the second one now.

I'm collecting around 40 litres of every couple of days at the moment.

Think I'm going to need more water butts.

We've now got 2 x 1,000 litre tanks behind our shed. This runs into an old shower pump in the shed and then runs into the garden, providing pressurised for garden irrigation

Added a second water butt to the garden. That means I can collect 200L of rain water now. Applied some high school physics too. Those taps are both open so the butts fill up at the same time from the bottom. I'm going to add a tee and outlet in the middle (once it arrives)

Since Bermuda has no natural water sources, almost all houses have white, stepped roofs to collect rainwater. This alone is enough to supply the islanders’ water needs, if you don’t count all the Evian.

(Garden water) butts for every taste.

Which is nice, because for many gardens and gardeners it doesn’t matter “what your butt looks like”, but other gardens mean your butt is on show (as it were 🙂)

This is my polytunnel system in all it's glory

A 1,000 litre tank collects water off the shed, it's piped through an old shower pump inside the shed which feeds into the polytunnel. Magic taps allow access to the water literally on tap

We should redesign the sidewalks in , . 🚶🏻‍♂️ That is, a much larger area of the sidewalk around our could slope slightly toward their trunks, 🌳 to deliver more as surface runoff to the bases of the trees, & their roots. 💧 A lot of our urban landscape was destroyed by pavement that is vacant & unused, & it could be dug up & restored & planted with boulevards of deep-rooted carbon-fixing indigenous prairie grasses. 🌾🦋

the authorities of Ile-de-France have issued an invitation to households in the possession of gardens to have rain collectors installed on their property. For this purpose, the government is offering up to 20,000 euros in subsidies for anyone who is planning to or has already installed the water tanks – no later than 3 months after installation, though.

We have the slightly unusual situation of having a split garden with a 2.5m high retaining wall, our veg beds are up in the top section and as we are lazy it’s hard work carrying up water (our rain barrels are by the house on the lower level). So last year as a I built a pump to move the water up to another barrel.
