I recently discovered Vaughan Williams' choral plea for peace, "Dona Nobis Pacem" with poetry by Walt Whitman. Considering the state of this world and the many active wars and frozen conflicts, it's a most timely piece.

Try to listen to it and turn it up for the brass parts!

Songs of Travel was premiered in 1904, when RVW was thirty-two The music shows post-romantic traits and the influence of his time in Germany. The poems of Robert Louis Stevenson are also clearly linked to Romanticism, they tell us about a wayfarer, a character who cannot be dissociated from the romantic wanderer.
