Really been FEELING horror again lately, feel like I'm rediscovering those things that drew me to writing it in the first place. In particular, the genuine joy and delight it brings me to write, in a way that other writing doesn't. Which are odd descriptors for horror, I guess, but also key. There's a certain visceral JOY in good horror and horror concepts, I think.

Identity is a funny thing. My whole life I’ve struggled with how I see myself, what I can or can’t claim, how I go about my life, and how others perceive me. It isn’t just a mixed race thing. It’s a deeper intersection of various identities I either personally hold or continuously rub up again.

It's depressing, how little childhood matters. It's just this silly thing you put away and don't think about past the happy moments, because kids are stupid and know nothing and all you're allowed to take from your childhood is "i was stupid".

Shelving your childhood and devaluing it into absurdity and meaninglessness is so common as to be practically a coming of age ritual, to put it all in the context of "childish things" and remove all weight and meaning.

And. . . It's so unfathomably wrong. Childhood founds who you are. It is formative. It all matters powerfully because learning and self and feelings and all those engines that drive you on are self-compounding things, that build upon themselves endlessly. And they all start in childhood. In formative and first experiences.

To shelve it and treat it as something absurd and meaningless that you are past. . . Is to give up on understanding yourself. I'd also wager it leads to one being a worse parent to lock away your childhood and to forget it as nothing more than a meaningless dream. To have no conception of the child self any more.

This doesn't surprise me. I wonder if there's been research to see if Gen Z are really leading this. I could see this for people who openly claim ENM but it *feels* like the swinger community is older. The kink community is quite old. Both which can have ENM elements

I wonder If there's a 'kid gap'. Because it seems there's a lot less options of people from 24-50, and parents w/ kids at home seem rarer?
