Power has been flickering a little. It's 4:38 pm on Sunday afternoon. The rainfall total for the last 24 hours is 2.08 inches (a normal YEAR in the desert is about 4 inches of rain).

The calm before the storm. With Hurricane Hillary approaching Baja California and Alta California (us), the Coachella Valley desert is expecting 3 inches of rain this weekend. 7-10 inches predicted for the San Jacinto Mountains in the distance to the west.

Most of the time the great dry wash that runs through the valley has no water at all. By Sunday I expect it will be full bank-to-bank.

Mount San Gorgonio, the tallest mountain in Southern California, still has a tiny scrap of snow in the last week of June.

Afternoon highs in the desert have been unseasonably cool this month, we are starting to see low 100s (F) now, when normally it would be 110-115.
