So... even with an expensive EV, it can't do this trip. I doubt a cheaper EV would be any better.
The Canadian prairies are sparsely populated. It may never be practical to have everyone using EVs, no matter how much the #government wants to force it.

Sales (globally) are certainly going up but how long before this rise hit the problems of a lagging #infrastructure for #charging?
Certainly in the UK e-car owners are already have #rangeanxiety & unreliable provision of (fast) chargers.
At present, over half of all pubic charging points are in China (which maps onto sales), but Europe lags.... and the Uk, well of course, our provision is 'uneven'!

This is the main concern for most new #EV owners, myself included. #RangeAnxiety is a real thing when starting out. It's part of the reason I bought an #EV with a heat pump.
In winter and cooler temperatures in late autumn and early spring, I'll be using just my heated steering wheel and heated seat. It will just be me in the car, so I can cope. So long as I set off with close to 100% my regular 220-mile family trip should be doable even though a lot of it is motorway or high-speed A roads. I just won't be going 70mph, and will instead reduce down to say 60-65mph. This too will make a material difference much of the time.
By just using a few simple adjustments to how you drive, it is perfectly possible to drive the distance in an #EV. You just need the right mindset, and over time you become more comfortable and confident in what you can do.
And when the weather is warmer, you can ease off some mitigations and just enjoy the journey.
For those with #EV #RangeAnxiety in #ColdWeather I just drove my #KonaEV on an errand in 8 degrees F and my mileage was no different than in normal cold weather if I just used the seat heaters: 185 miles/80% charge.
When I put climate control on, mileage went down to 135 miles. It takes a LOT of power to run climate control. #DressWarmlySaveBattery

@LaCrecerelle I bought an #EV this year. Great for round trips within one charge range. I’ve never successfully used any public infrastructure yet. (The best was 15 mins once, before it shut off!)
When visiting my parents yesterday a warning came up on the dash to tell me there were no available charging stations in range. At the time it had a range of 160 miles (that’s about 3 hours of driving!). Luckily they only live 30 miles from me.

#carsitting day 2: managed to charge the car fully overnight, and decided to head the 300+ kms to Copenhagen to see some kids play Counterstrike 😂 Car suggested to stop by a #SuperCharger once during the trip, so we had a half hour pit stop. No weirdness, but still have a bit of #ev #rangeanxiety. Getting home probably also takes one or two stops,but at least my home charger is now tested and working 😄

Our new #EV has a real world range of some 350km, which is pretty much the middle ground today. BUT it is recommended to charge the battery to only 80% for the sake of battery life, and to run it down no lower than about 20%. There goes 40% of the range! And that battery will deteriorate over time, worsening the situation.
Still, the reality for our family is that the remaining 210km range is more than adequate for most days of our lives and the battery is easily and conveniently recharged overnight at home, with another 210km of range available the next morning. And, dinosaurs that we are, we still have a petrol vehicle for when greater range is required. Apologies...

Zit nu toch wel echt naar een elektrische auto te kijken, maar ik vind het toch wel bezwaarlijk dat je in echte-wereld-bereik-kilometers nog niet zonder bijladen naar je familie op-en-neer kunt. Zelfs niet met de long-range uitvoering.
Mijn motorfiets heeft 450 echte-wereld-kilometers bereik op 1 tank en kan dus rustig op-en-neer zonder bijtanken.
