Fired up Apple's Music.app on the new MacBook Air for the first time. Wasted a few minutes figuring out that "authorising" a computer was a separate process from "signing in" to my account. Decided I wanted to hear AJ Teschin sing Kurt Weill's Alabama Song. Found the track. Hit play. Some beautifully haunting music that was definately not the Alabama Song. Desperately intrigued, I have spent the last 15 minutes trying to the the Music app to tell me what I was listening too. Of course, it doesn't know. It seems that Music.app defaults to "Playing Next > Autoplay (Similar music will keep playing) but will not update the cover art or track listing shown to give you any situational awareness. It's almost like the programers have decided "play music, any music, users just mash buttons at random anyway".

I realize that most places have removed their mask mandates, but I’m still shocked by the number of people who go into public places maskless. Or, almost more stupidly, with their mask on their chin.

I get it. They’re a little annoying. They can be warm, they can cause your glasses to fog up. And for some people, they can make breathing a little more difficult.

But you know what’s worse? Covid. Even a mild case can be debilitating and have long-lasting impacts. And for people with chronic medical conditions, Covid is especially deadly.

Not wearing a mask indoors basically says that you don’t give a shit about even the most vulnerable people in society. Wearing one like a goddamn chin diaper says you don’t give a shit, but you want people to think you do, and that’s even more sinister.

Just do the bare fucking minimum - it’s not that hard. I don’t know where we got the idea that being an asshole is somehow a virtue, but it literally isn’t. Why should anyone give a shit about your potential minimal discomfort if you don’t give a shit about our literal lives?

@yogthos although this bill delights the authoritarian wing of our governance class, it is also a giant gift to the legacy Silicon Valley companies. The bottom line is that TikTok is beating the pants off those legacy firms and the shift in advertising $ is proof. While "Big Tech" was showcasing their woke'ness and checking DE&I boxes, they forgot that they're actually in the business of business. TikTok built a better product and now the legacies are running to Uncle Sam for help.

In a kinder, fairer and more accurate world, "vulturous" would mean beneficial, tidy, sanitary. A "vulture capitalist" would be someone working on making a circular economy profitable in the real world.

It may seem like a meaningless point to harp on, but vultures are poisoned and shot all around the world mostly because of our long-standing prejudices about them. Word choices matter. Vultures are great. The world would be better if we were all more "vulturous".

I am so very angry with Hunt and his fellow idiots who led us into this Brexit quagmire because they thought their childish fantasies of being king-of-the-castle were achievable. Some of us had the wit not to vote Tory, but Corbyn was the unwitting sheep dog rounding up all those who thought their pockets would be pinched under his leadership. And here we are.

@alper Agreed. Notion or any other structures note taking app / environment foster better bookmarking and discovery. I think the collaborative writing in Gdocs feels magical to folks. But that process goes haywire and another bloated & discoverable doc gets lobbed on the heap.

And don't get me started on the utterly maddening sharing system for Gdocs. I have a discord server full of those stupid links since no one can find docs we're working on.
