Today is International Genocide Commemoration Day, where we remember the victims of past genocides and make it our mission to prevent future genocides.

The term 'genocide' literally means "killing of a people" and was coined by the Polish lawyer Raphael Lemkin, who was also the driving force behind the adoption of the 1948 Genocide Convention.
