The filters are also easily bypassed by acronymizing the term with periods or using extended characters.

The system is not designed for censorship... merely convenience.

I have domain blocked mastodon.world because they implemented #FediBlock or #RapidBlock lists. If that has changed, I will liberate them.

Nah, it's the hugbox.

The Masodong folks went full-in for censorship with #FediBlock and #RapidBlock.

That sealed them off and made them a hugbox. They self-destructed the same way MySpace did: once you start censoring, the interesting traffic goes elsewhere and you are left with second-tier influencers and a clueless audience.

Censorship just backfires in my view.

The #FediBlock and #RapidBlock lists enable lots of idiots to feel like they are "doing something" but it's more armchair activism that is harmful.

This is why #CounterRapidBlock was created to shut the censors in their own hugbox where they will inevitably self-destruct like MySpace.

That, and I think #RapidBlock is already failing.

They walled themselves off into a garden which has now become an echo chamber and hugbox, which leads to the type of stale energyless repetition that we see on dying social media sites (and before them, on dying forums).

The people who are leaving the #Fediverse are the ones who wanted #RapidBlock and #FediBlock.

They are going back to their safe spaces.

#RapidBlock is the censorship list that succeeded #FediBlock, and #CounterRapidBlock is the effort by some of us to simply domain ban any sites that use the RapidBlock list.
