Another of the internationally important rare breeds which stretch back 5000 years and are unique in eating Seaweed, but they are incredibly vulnerable to extinction ,as the majority of the breeding stock are on North Ronaldsay,I doubt theres sufficient breeding stock elsewhere to protect it if that flock was wiped out by sea based disaster .or if the Dyke on the Island couldnt be maintained

One of my hens is a Lakenvelder,incredibly hardy ,but flighty even more so than my Hamburgs ,shes semi feral despite being raised during chicken lockdown,but loves foraging and would happily sleep outside year long if I didnt make her go into a coop,at our last house where she could go awol easier she psent most nights outside and despite there being night time predators she was always safe

I made the biggest mistake today posting a picture of an Akhal-Teke and now I'm stuck looking at pictures of these beautiful horses wishing I will some day have a chance to ride one.

#Cickens #poultry #rarebreeds #scotland .I keep Scots grey bantams ,they are very hardy birds ,Two chicks that hatched three weeks back have been otuside every day but one foraging with mum despite mty best efforts to persuade them to stay in a warm nesting box ,the only day they didnt go out was because I kept them inside in the back porch because it was far too cold for them to be out .(They have grass but the graveled but is where I have coops )Mum is a Scots Dumpy

My sheep photo of the day ,and a query ,yesterday on some very high grazing I saw some fairly sturdy not not hugely tall dark brown sheep,they had huge fox like tails with a white/cream band of fur /fleece around the end ,their wool seem quite thick and dense I wondered if anyone knew what they were I have never seen them before ,I only saw two faces ,one had a white flecked bit,the other was all dark brown
