The Hunter Valley Delma (Delma vescolineata) lives down in burrows, in dense grass tussocks, and under rocks. Its enigmatic nature goes some way to explaining how this species went undetected for so long.
It is found only in the Hunter Valley and Liverpool Plains of NSW, which is why the development of NSW’s largest coal mine at Mount Pleasant could threaten its survival.
To destroy this rare species for a coal mine would be a tragedy.
The Denman, Aberdeen, Muswellbrook & Scone Healthy Environment Group (DAMSHEG) are taking legal action against the mine extension to protect their community, climate and this rare legless lizard.
EDO lawyers will represent this brave group in court.
