The book does have profanity in it, but the profanity is nothing anyone in 7th grade on up hasn’t either already heard or uses themselves. The book is powerful, a great story, and keeps you interested all the way through. Far from being banned, I think it should be read in every high school, if not every 8th grade English class, especially for predominantly white school districts. That would promote empathy among the students. The book deserves all the awards it’s received.

"#Houston Independent #School District will be eliminating #librarian positions at 28 schools this upcoming year and utilizing some of the #libraries as ‘Team Centers” where kids with behavioral issues will be sent, the district announced.

This comes as part of the new superintendent Mike Miles reform program, #NewEducationSystem (NES). Currently, there are a total of 85 schools that have joined Miles’ program, and of those, 28 campuses will lose their librarians. The district said they will have the opportunity to transition to other roles within the district."

I’ve always had an attraction to righteous infamy, so I’d probably be oddly happy about it! Book banning is one of those times where the quality of the company trumps whatever statement’s being made by the ban implementers.

A book may be challenged at our school district. This book has been recommended by our literature review committee for high school students, but the school board has expressed concern about “derogatory language”.

The book is the graphic novel Persepolis: The Story of a Childhood by Marjane Satrapi.

I haven’t read #Persepolis so naturally I want to get my hands on a copy. I’m surprised that there doesn’t seem to be an eBook version. I’ll be ordering a paper copy.
