@VannaBlack It's kind of slow but it is dramatic. Actually, I have seen a number of popular TV shows recently that are based on the events described in it.

I did splurge and bought the actual physical book that I read as I ride the bus without any electronic devices necessary! I also like reading actual physical books over reading on-line.

I think part of my problem with e-readers, which would be my alternative to a physical book over reading on a computer through a web browser, is that most of the e-readers are proprietary software. Once an open source e-reader comes out, I *might* use that over carrying around the 500 page book... but until then, books are the best for me too.

Hi, I'm [redacted], and I decided to join kolektiva dot social when my previous instance admin went on a rant about "outrage culture," said he didn't care, then played the victim when people rightfully called him out on it. As the famous quote goes, "If you're not outraged, you're not paying attention." I prefer to keep most of my personal details private, but here are the things about me I choose to reveal for my :
- I am in many senses of the word.
- In my free time I enjoy playing and (and learning new ). I also like to , , , and . I'm also a worker but I vacillate between loving/hating that. 😅
- I believe organizations and societies function best when there are guiding principles but no rigid structure; I believe in a non-religious (of course others are entitled to their own beliefs) and believe people are generally born "good" but also recognize that humans have created hell on earth vis a vis various methods of economics/government. Thus far in history, methods of social control only end up serving the ruling class and oppressing minorities.
- I only have a few close friends and people generally disappoint me. Prove me wrong! 😉

@Thelunarfox - it never really occurred to me until now that I’d like to have one of these at my bedside. I would be much more likely to instead of picking up my iPhone, poking around for the to read something, but instead getting sidetracked by email, doom-scrolling the news, or browsing social media.

If you have a library card, you can use Libby by Overdrive to check books out for free & if they don't have an audio version, I pay for an app called Natural Reader. It's a screen reader. Super helpful as my squirrel brain doesn't read books on my phone very well.
