Read Harder Challenge Task 8: Read an independently published book by a BIPOC author.
I read 'Her Body and Other Parties: Stories' by Carmen Maria Machado.
[She]..blithely demolishes the arbitrary borders between psychological realism and science fiction, comedy and horror, fantasy and fabulism.
A collection of short stories, I found it
weird, provocative and interesting!

I usually like to do multiple books for #ReadHarder challenges - in this case, I'm looking for a copy of Zenna Henderson's Pilgrimage - which might involve a trip to the Merril Collection of Science Fiction, Speculation & Fantasy in Toronto.
Apparently Octavia Butler loved this book so much, that she'd give it out as a gift.
Sort of interesting to me, that I'm not able to find Pilgrimage as an e-book, despite being published much ten years later than the Sturgeon book.

I have just changed from the Mastodon.LOL server to bookstodon.com, so an introduction is in order.
I used to read 100-150 books a year, before the pandemic broke everything.
I may never read as voraciously as I did before, but I would like to read with intention.
I will be participating in the 2023 #Bookriot #ReadHarder challenge - https://bookriot.com/read-harder-2023/amp/ and will attempt to blog my adventures at https://purdy-johnson.com.
